Hi Again I have recently attained another 1592b which makes three in all,This one works great except the need for some major pot scrubbing.I was wondering the best way as the backing on these seemed to be completly sealed with not much way to spray cleaner inside .Is it possible to take these sucessfuly apart and clean or is replacment the way to go.I also notice on this unit it has three gain selections under each mixer knob-20-10and 0db my others have just low and hi gain.wondering if any one has one or seen one and if they were made earlier or later in production. Thanks again.

I haven't found a pot yet I couldn't take apart, most commonly you just straighten the retaining tabs on the rear housing.
That said, I seldom do it anymore. If spray-cleaning in place either isn't an option or doesn't help, I normally replace. It's that one out of 3 or 4 that's still a problem after you went to all that trouble that takes the economy out of it.
No idea about the gain switch thing, all I've seen had 3 pole switches. Compare your serial numbers.

For replacement pots, cross-reference the old part number in selecting a replacement to make sure you get the right taper. At Mouser or DigiKey, you can usually just enter the old number and it's automatically crossed. Altec did use some pots that are hard to find exact replacements for.
